Catechetical Certification

Studentsdo not have to be enrolled in a program to take courses, and are invited to take any course, any time. Students who complete the three year program are eligible to apply for Catechetical Certification in the Diocese of Kansas City-St. Joseph. Students who successfully complete course work for all three years may apply for graduation each Spring. Those who hold this diocesan certification often work in catechesis as volunteers and employees in parishes and schools. Many are also active in various forms of the lay apostolate in works of charity, evangelization and social justice. The training includes doctrinal formation, spiritual development, teaching methodology, and promotes growth in personal holiness. Learn more.

      Note About Online Courses
We believe the best way to learn is to attend the actual in person classes. We also recognize that distances and scheduling make this difficult for some students. In an effort to better serve our students, the Bishop Helmsing Institute offers a selection of online courses. During the 2011-2012 school year we are pleased to offer our Year One courses online during the dates scheduled below.

Each course will consist of a series of recorded lectures in audio mp3 format, course readings, and questions. The questions are submitted to the instructor by email. The site also has a blog where students can share thoughts and questions with the online class. Four week classes need to be completed in approximately six weeks from the beginning of the course. Unlike the traditional courses we offer, online courses may not be registered for ahead of time. This means registration for a course can only take place while it is being offered and not before that time.
