The Complete Training Program for Effective Parish Catechists
Youth and young adults are leaving the Church in droves.
Are you prepared to make an impact on the students you teach?
Textbook lesson plans are a fantastic resource, but being a truly effective catechist requires a specific skill set and depth of knowledge. Our catechist training program will help you succeed.
Our curriculum gives you:
- A grasp of the cohesive unity of Catholicism.
- The ability to communicate the richness and beauty of Catholic life.
- An understanding the methodologies needed to successfully transmit the Catholic Faith.
The course of study is divided into 3 years.
Year 1: Faith Connections
Over the course of this first year, you’ll become familiar with the essential aspects of the Catechism of the Catholic Church.
You’ll cover all four pillars of the Catechism, understand how they’re connected, and leverage that unity for more interesting and effective teaching.
- Essential Catholicism I
- Essential Catholicism II
- Liturgy and Sacraments
- Our Life in Christ I
- Our Life in Christ II
- Marriage and Family
- Spiritual Life
In the second phase, you’ll discover the plan of salvation God gradually reveals throughout the Bible.
Each course provides an essential piece of the Bible’s overarching story, as well as Bible studies that illuminate the internal connections of Sacred Scripture. Spiritual applications will focus on the attitudes necessary for a faithful disciple of Jesus.
- Creation & Covenant
- Kingdom, Exile, & Promise
- Synoptic Gospels & Acts
- Writings of St. Paul
- Hebrews & the Catholic Letters
- Writings of St. John
Year 3: Historical Connections
This final phase provides crucial backgrounds for catechetical effectiveness.
You’ll understand what the Church is today by studying how it was formed over the last twenty centuries. You’ll see how that history plays out in the social teaching of the Church. Studying saint’s writings gives you models for holiness and spirituality.
Finally, you’ll learn teaching styles unique to Catholic catechesis that evangelize and form students for real, lasting faith.
- Church History I
- Church History II
- Vatican Council II
- Writings of the Saints
- Social Doctrine
- Leadership and Evangelization
- Catechetical Methods
In addition to course work, students seeking certification are encouraged to attend one conference and one retreat per year for additional spiritual guidance and formation.
Catechesis is one of the most important elements in the Church’s mission of evangelization. However, to be effective requires knowledge, preparation, and skill.
We are committed to giving you the support needed to be successful and to enjoy your efforts in building God’s kingdom.
